Nat Festival in Taungboyne

Nat Festival in Taungboyne

Taungboyne, Myanmar, ten thousands of people are visiting the biggest annual six days lasting Nat festival that always takes place before fullmoon in August. Nats are spirits that live in plants, nature and also animals and humans. Two brother nats were buried in Taungboyne, at that place a big temple was built. This Nat festival is held to their honor. Men dress up as women and become a medium between the nats and the people. They are called nat-gadaw, wife of the nats, because they claim to be married to a nat.
