Ramadan is the Islamic fasting month, when devout Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. It is a spiritual time, but also a time of sociality with friends and family breaking the fast together at sunset with the so called iftar. Shortly before, during the rush to get home to break the fast, Cairo grinds to a halt daily under mega traffic jams.
