BIO/BIOGRAFIE
Claudia Wiens is a German photojournalist based in Istanbul and Cairo, between which she is travelling internationally for her work. Her expertise and knowledge, from over 10 years of living in the region and her fluency in Arabic, has allowed her to develop a style of rare intimacy and insight of Middle Eastern culture that has grown into a signature of her work.
She contributes regularly to international publications, such as GEO, GEOlino, COLORS, The National, GEO Special, Wallpaper*, DW tv, BBC World, Merian Guide Book, Abenteuer Reisen, Chrismon, British Marie Claire, and she works frequently for a number of NGOs, including UNICEF, UNDP, GTZ and Johns Hopkins.

Claudia Wiens is the author of two photo books: Coptic Life in Egypt, focusing on the religious traditions and social life of the country’s Christians; and recently a previously undocumented portrayal of daily life in Myanmar/Burma, Of Dung-beetle Messengers and Infamous Crickets. This was supported by a project grant from the German institution, KULTURWERK.

Her work has frequently been featured in exhibitions in Germany, Egypt, Switzerland and England, at venues like the August Kestner Museum (Hannover), Summer Show in the HOST Gallery (London), Antikenmuseum (Basel) and Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Alexandria).
